Athletic Performance

Athletic Development
The Iron Maven approach to athletic development is based on theory and practice from over a decade of work in rehabilitation, the sport of weightlifting and the Gambetta Method of functional training. Through individualized instruction, the high school athlete is taught to take responsibility for his or her physical health and understand the importance of fundamental movement skills before sport-specific skills. The master’s athlete programming is designed to be more independent and accommodate a hectic schedule. Exercise selection and training volume are optimized to maintain physical health and improve performance. All athletes must undergo a physical health assessment prior to beginning a training program. Athlete Spotlight

Ryan Pierson (basketball, Christian Brothers)
Ryan began training 2 years ago as a 6’8” 240 lb high school sophomore, just one year after suffering a tibial avulsion fracture. Now a 6’10” 225 lb senior, he has completely rebuilt his body and become a confident, mobile, explosive athlete on the basketball court. He’ll continue his career at Division I Northeastern University. Read what Ryan’s father has to say about his training experience.
Chris Lischke (volleyball, DeSmet Jesuit)
Chris began training 18 months ago. At 6’ 9” and 175 lbs, he was painfully thin and lacked general endurance and power on the volleyball court. Coaches limited his playing time to the middle hitter position as he was unable to contribute on defense. Now at 210 lbs, Chris is an offensive threat as a mobile, explosive outside hitter and an effective passer for his elite St. Louis High Performance Volleyball 18 Gold team. Chris will continue his volleyball career at the University of Southern California (USC).
